Cross-store co-op: when it works and when it does not
The store logo matters less than whether everyone owns the game and the edition matches.
When cross-store co-op works
If each person owns the title on PC and the game supports cross-play for that edition, the store badge often matters less than whether everyone can launch.
Cross-play is per title — not automatic between every launcher. Check the game's multiplayer notes before you assume Steam and Epic can party together.
When it fails
- Only one person owns the game.
- Editions differ (DLC, platform-exclusive content).
- The title is single-store only.
- Someone is on console while the squad is on PC.
Check before you pitch
Compare libraries as a group. Cross-store overlap beats guessing from memory.
